PSG Defeats Marseille in a Shootout to Lift French Super Cup in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now won the season-opening cup on fourteen separate occasions.

The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome their arch-rivals in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The European champions appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the match featuring the Ligue 1 winners and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele found the scoring early on.

Yet, Marseille struck twice in the closing moments to take a shock advantage. Initially, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial equaliser in the final moments to send the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then stood as the hero, stopping decisive kicks from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a convincing penalty win.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the past thirteen years.
