What can you improve a stellar experienced team that have secured back-to-back championships, including a league-cup double boasting thirty wins from 32 matches?

Sign a collection of former professionals who have competed at the top level of club and global soccer as you target further trophies.

One Greater Manchester side has an non-professional veterans team with nine former Premier League footballers in their active squad.

222 Top Division Goals, Three Hundred Twenty-Five International Appearances

Wythenshawe Veterans Over 35s are situated in southern Manchester and play in the Cheshire-based Veterans Division Premier Tier.

The squad list this season includes 9 ex- top-flight footballers, with a combined 1,801 top-flight matches.

This elite roster also contains over 220 Premier League scores and 325 international appearances.

They include Papiss Cisse, who scored 37 goals in 117 games for his former club after joining them for £9m from German league side SC Freiburg in 2012.

He had his debut for the team in their most recent home game versus defending title holders their rivals and scored every one of the six scores in a 6-2 win - featuring a 32-minute opening period triple.

Wythenshawe's team for this campaign also features former pros such as English and Anfield forward Emile Heskey, Hull and Burnley winger George Boyd, Toffees striker Oumar Niasse, Wigan full-back Maynor Figueroa, City pair Stephen Ireland and Nedum Onuoha and top-flight championship winners Joleon Lescott and Danny Drinkwater.

In total, the former top-flight players have secured 15 big trophies and moved for combined transfer sums of about £123m.

Household Figures and Global Players

Ireland started playing for the side in pre-season this season through good friend and current team player Blake Norton, and the ex- Irish midfielder then asked other ex-pros, who all play in a weekly small-sided game, to participate.

Former Senegalese forward Niasse, who scored 12 goals in 65 Premier League games for Everton and still attends their matches at Goodison Park, also made his debut against the opposition - who are located in the city and wear an Everton warm-up gear as their strip.

"A friend Stephen said 'join and have a game, it's enjoyable'," said the striker.

"After that he informed me we were facing a team from Liverpool and the surprise I had when I saw them sporting Blue kits - I say this is wrong for me!

"If you still enjoy football and you know you can still play, wherever you can kick a ball, what are you going to do?

"Those spectators who come and watch are happy and to make a day if they watch us playing there and to pose us questions - it's more like the pleasure of us getting somewhere we can enjoy football, with structure of course."

So great is the strength in depth at the club, Niasse made his debut at defender.

"It's a bit unusual but then, I enjoy running and just go forward - I'm not staying back that much," he added.

"I warn my defender 'I'm not staying' and that I'm just going to continue running.

"That movement is what I'm seeking. It's enjoyable."

Unreal Experience

Along with the forward's six goals on debut, Stephen Ireland has netted eight in 3 games for Wythenshawe, while George Boyd scored 5 on his first appearance and Lescott, a defender by position, notched a triple in one game as a striker.

Wythenshawe are leading of the Top Division with three victories from three and a goal difference of +19.

Paul Barrow, 38, who features on the flank for Collegiate OB, faced former Wigan defender Figueroa on the weekend - and had to explain his young boy who Heskey was.

He has played at two World Cups for Honduras, in as well as playing in more than two hundred Premier League matches.

"The news was going round like wildfire they had these ex-Premier League players," remarked the player.

"I think I was a bit starstruck playing against him to be honest.

"Also Emile [Heskey] came on and he's got 60-odd England appearances.

"Our side competed well for a good twenty mins but then we had a player dismissed and it was hard.

"We literally haven't stopped chatting about it - I was calling my mother and brother on the way home.

"They were all friendly, shaking our hands after the game - it was like playing a bunch of regular fellas.

"Now we can't wait for the second match."
